La Familia Calderon

This is the family that I am doing my photo story on. The father's name is Dimas Calderon and he and his family live and work on a dairy farm in Llano Verde, Guatemala. Here are some images that probably won't make it into the story, but I like the way they came out.

How many licks...

...until the springs are clean?
Dakota, a Bard Owl, lures children to the Florida Wildlife Care booth at the Second Annual Springs Celebration at Poe Springs. The event focused on environmental issues facing the local spring and river systems. Plenty of organizations were there to show children and their parents how to reduce their impact on the environment. Hopefully it made an impact on those children.

Methodist Morning

First United Methodist in High Springs got a new pastor a few weeks ago and I was assigned to shoot him preaching. When I first got there I shot a few portraits of him in the church, none I was too crazy about. But then, when they started the service they raised a projection screen to reveal this piece of stained glass. It immediately jumped out at me and I decided to incorporate it into a shot. Underneath is my pick for the preaching shot.

Fireworks Alternative

On assignment for the paper, I went out to shoot fireworks at a "4th on the 5th" celebration. After shooting the typical fireworks shots, I packed up my camera and was heading back to the car when I saw this. The smoke from the fireworks was blowing toward the crowd and made an interesting scene.

Dudley Farm

These shots are from Dudley Farm, a historic State Park in Newberry. The farm, which had been in the same family from the 1850's to the 1980's, was turned over to the state to be made into a park. It is a sort of time capsule that remains unchanged and makes one appreciate how things used to be.

"I feel Jesus inside me!"

Brother Leon Young sings at Mount Nebo United Methodist Church in Alachua, Fl. At my first church assignment I have to say I was a little uncomfortable when I arrived. I was hesitant to take shots while people were worshipping, but I got over it fairly quickly and they were very welcoming. It was definitely not like any service I've ever been to.

Fantastic Friday

Flexplate, a local Alachua band, plays outside Music Junction in High Springs. It was really enjoyable to see this group of young guys doing what makes them happy--playing music. They played everything from Lynard Skynard to Pink Floyd and were really pretty good. It reminded me of when I used to be in a band with friends.

A Night With the Krishnas

Alachua has one of the highest concentrations of Krishnas in the U.S. I got the opportunity to watch dancers from the Bhakti Kalalayam Dance Academy perform Nritya Seva. It was beautiful.

Kiddie Prom

More assignments for the High Springs Herald. This was a Kiddie Prom put on by Little Angels Day Care in Alachua, Fl.

High Springs Herald

Here are some of the things I've been shooting the past 3 weeks at my new internship.
